The Machete

The Machete is a Finnish thrash and death metal group formed in 2003. The band is active from 2003 to the present and has six listed members: Antti Vajanto, Kuisma Aalto, Tuomo Saikkonen, Santtu Hämäläinen, Juha Javanainen and Teemu Saikkonen.

History

The group’s first release is a demo from 2004. Its debut album, Regression, appears in 2005 on Spinefarm Records. The line-up includes Tuomo Saikkonen and Santtu Hämäläinen, who are also known from the Finnish band Mokoma. In the band, Tuomo Saikkonen handles vocals, Santtu Hämäläinen and Juha Javanainen play guitar, Antti Vajanto plays bass and Teemu Saikkonen plays drums.

Releases and recognition

The Machete later releases Untrue, which becomes album of the week on Imperiumi, described as Finland’s largest metal media. The band also makes a video for the song Warmonger, with Tuomo Saikkonen appearing in the video as Adolf Hitler and George W. Bush.

Membership changes

Tuomo Saikkonen leaves the group in early 2008, after which the band looks for a new lead singer.
