The Long Ryders
The Long Ryders are an American alternative country and paisley underground group from Los Angeles. The band forms in 1983 and remains active, with Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy and Tom Stevens as members. Its line-up brings together musicians from different parts of the United States, with Kentucky native Sid Griffin sharing vocals and guitar duties with Virginian Stephen McCarthy.
Career
The Long Ryders are principally active between 1983 and 1987, then disband in 1987 before reuniting for a series of brief returns. They regroup for performances in 2004, 2009 and 2016, including appearances at major events such as Glastonbury Festival in 2004. The group also plays live dates in the United States after long breaks, headlining The Earl in Atlanta in 2009 and the Troubadour in Los Angeles in 2014.
Releases and recognition
The band scores a UK hit with Looking for Lewis & Clark in 1985. In 2019 it releases Psychedelic Country Soul, its first album of new material in 33 years. That release is followed by a series of tour dates.
