The Lazys

The Lazys are an Australian hard rock and rock band from New South Wales’ Central Coast. The group forms in 2006 and begins with five friends in their twenties, combining punk’s raw edge with anthemic rock.

Career

The band builds a fan base quickly and comes to the attention of Sydney agency Select Music within a year. It then plays to large crowds nationally, including a show in front of 20,000 fans with fellow Central Coast act Something with Numbers. Rather than relying on chart success, the band sells thousands of CDs at its own gigs and develops a grass-roots following that grows from Brisbane to Tasmania.

The Lazys also tour nationally and appear at the Come Together festival. They share stages with Against Me, The Answer, Juliette and the Licks, Grinspoon and After the Fall. The band later works with producer Phil McKellar, whose credits include Grinspoon, Silverchair, Kisschasy and The Getaway Plan.

Recordings and recognition

Singles including “All Fired Up” and “Union of the Underdogs” are released and attract the attention of Michael Chugg, who puts the band forward for the JD Set. After being voted onto the set in large numbers, The Lazys tour around Australia. During that tour, singer Leon injures his knee after jumping from the top of Marshall cabinets at the Gaelic Club, but the band continues the tour. In November, after receiving more than 8,000 votes, the band receives the inaugural Jack Daniels Winners award in Melbourne, presented on stage by Gyroscope and Jabba.

Festival appearances

The Lazys appear on the main stage at the inaugural Coaster festival alongside The Living End, Kisschasy and Cog. An EP is also planned for early 2009.
