The Launderettes

The Launderettes are a Norwegian all-female garage rock group active since 1996. They play what they describe as raw 1960s garage punk and are led by Ingvild Nordang, who is described as the band’s “scream queen”. The line-up also includes Linda Kastbakken on guitar and backing vocals, Siri Eriksen on bass and backing vocals, Ragna Nordenborg on keyboards and backing vocals, and Cecile Asker on drums and percussion.

Releases and recordings

The band releases its first two singles in 2000. Rebel Love appears on the Norwegian label Sneakers Records, and I Wanna Jump Your Bones is issued on the German label Thunderbaby Records. Both singles later become hard to find and are regarded as collectors’ items. During the same period, the group appears on the compilations Riot On The Rocks, Stiff Nipples, and A Fist Full of Rock N Roll.

While touring Belgium in 2000, The Launderettes also release a live recording, Live At Tiki's, on their own label, Launderama Records. Their first album, Shaken and Disturbed, is released on Big Dipper and sells out within two months, leading to a second pressing. The follow-up album, Every Heart Is A Timebomb, also comes out on Big Dipper in early 2005. In 2007, the group moves to Wicked Cool Records and releases Fluff 'n' Fold - The Best of The Launderettes.

Touring and collaborations

The Launderettes tour extensively across Europe and support acts including Finland’s Thee Ultra Bimboos, Branded Women, and the Voladoras. Their association with these artists leads to a split EP released on Low Impact.
