The Hype Theory

The Hype Theory are a UK power pop and punk group from Chelmsford, Essex, active since 2010. The line-up forms around lead vocalist Katy Jackson, guitarist Sean Bishop, drummer Josh Coombes and guitarist Tom Harrison.

Formation and early work

The band forms in the summer of 2010 after Jackson and Bishop spend a year writing together at college. They complete the line-up with Coombes and Harrison and begin supporting other acts including Me vs Hero, Summerlin, Don Broco, All Forgotten, Shadows Chasing Ghosts, The First and Paige.

Recordings and releases

In November 2010, the group self-releases its debut single, We Will Be Singing. The track receives radio play on Kerrang! Radio, and the band is named one of the station’s hottest female-fronted bands for 2010 by listeners. In December 2010, The Hype Theory record their debut album, Glory Days, with Matt O’Grady, who has worked with You Me At Six and Deaf Havana. After signing with Small Town Records in spring 2011, they release Kid At Heart as their first single for the label.

Festival appearances and profile

The Hype Theory appear at major UK festivals including Download, T in the Park, Underage, Hevy and Sonisphere. They also reach the final eight of Red Bull Bedroom Jam, which leads to further festival performances and an appearance at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. Their videos and songs also receive play on Kerrang! and Scuzz TV, and they continue to receive regular airtime on Kerrang! Radio.
