The Halo Effect
The Halo Effect is a Gothenburg, Sweden-based melodic death metal group formed in 2019 and active since then. The band is made up of former members of In Flames: Mikael Stanne on vocals, Jesper Strömblad and Niclas Engelin on guitar, Peter Iwers on bass and Daniel Svensson on drums. It records for Nuclear Blast.
Background
The project comes out of the Swedish Gothenburg metal scene and is rooted in the style associated with 1990s melodic death metal. Its members bring long histories from In Flames: Strömblad is a founding member of that band, Stanne works with In Flames as a session vocalist in the early 1990s, Engelin and Iwers join in 1997, and Svensson joins in 1998. Strömblad, Iwers and Svensson then play together in In Flames for more than a decade before Strömblad leaves in 2010.
Repertoire and releases
The band releases its debut single, “Shadowminds”, and follows with its first album, Days of the Lost. Its material is closely associated with death metal, melodic death metal and metal, with an emphasis on the Gothenburg sound that influences the group’s identity.
Name and activity
The name comes from a song on Rush’s Clockwork Angels. The group emerges during the COVID-19 period and continues as a live and recording act, including performances in Europe and the UK.
