The Grit

The Grit is a London-based group active from 2002 to 2012. It plays a mix of folk punk, psychobilly and punk, and is also associated with punkabilly and punk rock.

Background

The band forms in 2002 and builds a reputation through intensive touring in the UK and Europe. Its live dates include appearances at major festival stages such as Reading and Glastonbury, as well as venues in England, Germany and elsewhere.

Releases and recordings

The Grit records for People Like You Records. Its album Shall We Dine? is followed by Straight out the Alley, which is described as a 12-track release that moves through punk, ska, rockabilly, psychobilly and country. The album features guest musicians and incorporates mandolin, ukulele and brass into the band’s sound.

The group also works with Big Cheese Magazine on a release that includes a single, an album track and two live tracks. It records a BBC Radio 1 session with Mike Davies.

Live activity and collaborations

The Grit tours with The Generators, Goldblade and The Aggrolites, and shares a stage with Rancid in Newcastle. Its live performances are presented as a central part of its identity, alongside a style it describes as “Punk ‘n’ Fuck ‘n’ Roll”.
