The Graveltones
The Graveltones are a London-based two-piece garage rock group active since 2011. The band forms around Jimmy O on vocals and guitar and Mikey Sorbello on drums and noises. They start after the two Australians meet in Tin Pan Alley in London and, after jamming in a studio, play their first show at the 100 Club in London three days later in February 2011.
Sound and influences
The band plays heavy blues rock and roll with a garage rock focus. Their influences include Captain Beefheart, John Lee Hooker and Queens of the Stone Age.
Early releases
The Graveltones record a five-track self-titled debut EP over two days at London’s Miloco Studios with producer Sean Douglas of Wire. The EP appears in digital form on the band’s official website and iTunes in 2011. Grapevine Music in London describes it as a Christmas stocking filler.
They follow this with the single “I Want Your Love” in 2012, made available as a free download on their official website. The track is used by Irish Lotto in an advertising campaign featuring “Happy Tony”.
Touring
In February 2012 the duo return to Australia for a headline tour, playing venues including The Tote Hotel, Cherry Bar and Black Bear Lodge. In August 2012 they begin a UK and European tour that includes appearances at Standon Calling and a headline performance at Rotherhithe Festival in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. The band also plans to support Rival Sons on a European tour. Since forming, they play more than 250 gigs.
