The Getaway Plan

The Getaway Plan are an Australian alternative rock and post-hardcore band from Melbourne, formed in 2004. The group is led by vocalist and guitarist Matthew Wright and also includes guitarist Clint Owen Ellis, bassist Mike Maio and drummer Dan Maio. They begin with a demo release in 2004.

Releases and early success

In 2006, the band signs to Boomtown Records and issues its first label release, the EP Hold Conversation. Their debut studio album, Other Voices, Other Rooms, follows in 2008 and brings the band wider attention. It reaches number one on the Australian Independent Records (AIR) chart and number 14 on the ARIA albums chart, and remains in the ARIA top fifty for four weeks.

Split, return and later recordings

In February 2009, the band announces that it splits up, with final shows taking place in June. It reforms in November 2010 with plans for a new album and a national tour. The second album, Requiem, is recorded in Canada in April 2011 and released later that year. In July 2013, the band parts ways with original bass player Dave Anderson and is no longer with its long-time label and management, UNFD.

In 2014, The Getaway Plan announces plans for a third LP, Dark Horses, and chooses to work independently rather than through a label. The band also sets up a crowdfunding campaign through Pledgemusic and records a four-track EP, Journaux, for pledgers. Dark Horses is released in 2015 and debuts at number 10 on the ARIA albums chart.
