The Galipaygos
The Galipaygos are a six-piece alt-country and Americana group from the United Kingdom, based in Inverness, Scotland. Formed in 2003, the band releases work in a style shaped by 1960s and 1970s country rock as well as contemporary Americana.
Sound and influences
Their influences include The Byrds, Bob Dylan, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Band, alongside Ryan Adams, Calexico and Wilco. Their music is described through its strong melodic writing, observational detail and dry humour, and it is compared with The Grateful Dead, The Jayhawks and Teenage Fanclub.
Releases
The Galipaygos have released three albums: Look no Heartbreak (2004), Trucker Chic (2005) and The Demise Of Gary Lip-Gloss.
Live work
The band builds a live following across the Highlands and plays throughout Scotland. It supports acts including The Cosmic Rough Riders, Dogs Die in Hot Cars and King Creosote. Notable performances include a support slot with The Delgados at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness and appearances opening for British Sea Power, Aberfeldy and The Proclaimers at Belladrum Festival near Beauly.
