The Fall of Kings
The Fall of Kings (often abbreviated to TFOK) is an indie rock band from Liverpool formed in early 2008. It consists of four friends: Dan and Nathan meet at school, Nathan and Dave meet at university, and Joe is Dan’s brother.
Sound and style
The band starts with the aim of writing good music rather than fitting into labels or scenes, and their sound develops over time. Their arrangements move from background keyboards to larger, more atmospheric soundscapes, with bass lines becoming a more prominent part of the songs, guitar parts becoming harder-edged and more assured, and rhythms taking on a more forceful role. Their material also includes experimental instrumental sections and sing-along choruses.
Live performances
TFOK build a reputation as a live band through frequent performances in Liverpool and across the North West. Their shows combine musicianship with audience participation and sometimes include unexpected cover versions, including Spandau Ballet’s Gold and Haddaway’s What Is Love. Their stage approach also includes bass-drum-triggered lights, hand-painted banners and T-shirts, homemade promo videos and artwork, stripped-back acoustic sets, birthday cakes brought out on stage, climbing on amplifiers, drum kits and furniture, running through the crowd with wind chimes, and bringing audience members on stage to play floor toms.
Notable appearances
In 2010, the band supports Mark Morriss of The Bluetones and also warms up for The Automatic and Goldie Lookin Chain at Sunset Festival in Wirral. Performing to larger crowds on the same stage as established acts becomes an important experience for the group and shows that they are comfortable on bigger stages.
