The Entertainment combine rock riffs, funk grooves and rap, with trumpet and DJ scratching added to the mix. The band forms out of the remains of a previous recording project called The Insects, which features guitarist David, described as one of London’s leading surf guitarists and a regular participant in the London Underground busking scheme.

David meets Achilleas by chance while they play with a friend’s band. Achilleas plays bass and trumpet, and also has links to The Dandy Warhols and The Soul Destroyers. The rapper Blee joins after answering an advert placed in Loot, and Paul later comes in after watching him play while the band’s lead singer strips down to bright pink underpants. The singer is Sharon Jackson, also associated with Soul Destroyers.

Blee has roots in Montserrat and grows up in England, and his style is described as combining American rap influence with a literate approach. The band plays a wide range of live shows, from a three-day festival in a back garden to London venues such as 13ft East and Cargo, alongside acts ranging from punk metal groups to a performer known as sexdroid. Their aim is to make music that people can both dance to and rock out to, with a sound compared to a modern-day Funkadelic.

Sharon is described as performing with a James Brown-like presence, while Blee is known for his flow, lyric writing and calm delivery.
