The Drop out Wives

The Drop out Wives are a group from the Netherlands and are identified as a 1990s Dutch trance duo made up of Mauro Castellazzi and Paul Zuidema. They are also described as a four-piece act formed in 2007, originally known as The Side-Show Sirens.

Style and activity

The group is associated with trance, and is also tagged with garage, psychedelic, lo-fi and under 3000 club. Their music is described in terms that place it within rough-edged rock and punk territory as well as dance music, with references to fuzzed-out garage grunge punk, “slop-o-billy” songs, dirty riffs, trippy beats, short songs with poppy hooks, and longer improvised sections.

Line-up

The act is listed with Lola Fenix on vocals and guitar, Big D on drums and vocals, Rowdy Ruddy Piper on bass, and Stormy “Lonesome Cowboy” Weathers on guitar and vocals. A line-up change is also noted: Joey Class, associated with The Senton Bombs, leaves the guitar role in the earlier incarnation, and Rixo joins on bass while Nat switches to guitar.

Recordings

The group records only EPs at this stage, all in limited editions. These include Creepy Crawl, The Way I Walk, Invasion and Tra La La. Another EP, The Drop-Out Wives…Are The Reason You Can’t Have Nice Things, is planned for release on Must Die Records, while the group is also working on a first full-length album.

Live activity

The Drop out Wives perform across the UK and are presented as a loud, chaotic rock’n’roll act with a mix of strong vocals, heavy drums and bass, and a deliberately unrestrained stage presence.
