The Deadly Romantics form in Hamilton, Ontario, in summer 2006 and are also known in Canada as Thunderfuck and the Deadly Romantics. The band features several locally known musicians and quickly develops a cult following in its home city.
Activity and recognition
The group opens for Tyla of The Dogs D’Amour on a Canadian tour in 2007. It receives coverage in the USA, Canada, the UK and New Zealand, and also attracts attention through a run of local publicity and controversy in Hamilton.
Among its stated points of recognition, the band places first in View Magazine’s readers poll for best band merchandise, second for best band name, and third for best gig posters. It is also removed from Hamilton’s Festival of Friends after complaints about the band name, and later sues the mayor of Hamilton in July 2007.
Recordings and awards
An unreleased demo reaches a judging panel and receives a nomination for Best Hard Rock Record at the Hamilton Music Awards in 2007. The band also releases a cover of The Dogs D’Amour’s “Saviour” on a charity tribute CD, and is nominated for Best Hard Rock Recording at the Hamilton Music Awards in 2008.
Later activity
The Deadly Romantics relocate to the UK and continue under that name, with management listed as c/o Daze Management (Bruce Hotchkies).
