The Daze

The Daze are an Australian indie rock group, active since 2004 and based in Melbourne. They begin as an outlet for Nick Conolly’s songwriting and develop into a more collaborative band. The core line-up centres on Conolly, who handles vocals, guitars, piano and organ, alongside Joel Bloom on lap steel and dobro, Claire Kuiper on vocals and guitar, and Dale “G” Thomas on drums and vocals.

Style and line-up

The band’s sound sits across indie rock, post-punk, alt-country and folk, reflecting the range of instruments and voices in the group. Conolly’s role as songwriter remains central, but the group is described as working collectively around the four core members.

Releases and recording

The Daze release a five-track EP titled Street Light Solace, which includes four new songs and a remix of an Olinda Daze track, “Itchy Feet”, remixed by former member Paul Skelton. The band is also recording the follow-up to its debut release.

Related names

There are several other groups using the name The Daze, including an unsigned Irish indie band, a London-based indie trio, an Austin blues rock and folk trio, and a post-punk band from Bury St Edmunds. The Australian band is distinct from these acts.
