The Dandy Warhols
The Dandy Warhols are an American alternative rock band from Portland, United States, active since 1994. They form in 1993 and are made up of Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Zia McCabe, Peter Holmström, Brent DeBoer and Eric Hedford. The group begins with Taylor-Taylor, McCabe, Holmström and Hedford, with Hedford later leaving in 1998 and being replaced by Taylor-Taylor’s cousin Brent DeBoer.
The band’s name is a play on the name of the American pop artist Andy Warhol. Their sound sits across alternative rock, indie rock, indie pop, neo-psychedelia, pop rock and rock, and they are associated with indie and alternative music.
The Dandy Warhols are influenced by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Velvet Underground, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Shadows and The Rolling Stones. Some songs also contain implicit musical references to My Bloody Valentine. Courtney Taylor-Taylor describes the band’s early days as a group of friends who “needed music to drink to”.
