The Creature Comfort
The Creature Comfort are a Manchester group active from 1987 to the present. Their music sits across alternative rock, garage rock, psychedelic rock and punk, and they are associated with Missing Door Music.
Formed in the late 1980s, the band is known for a twin-guitar approach, a strong rhythmic groove and songs that deal with dread and desire. Their sound draws on styles ranging from psychedelic soul to bubblegum power pop, while also taking in classic rock and harder-edged underground influences.
Early in their career, the band is taken up by the manager of the Stone Roses as a potential next big act, and they build a substantial underground following through support slots with bands including Mudhoney and the Gun Club. Their first period ends in self-destruction, but they later return with a revised line-up.
They are also described as a live act with strong energy and as a band whose songs combine intelligence with noise and unusual twists. Their reputation is linked to Manchester’s rock scene and to comparisons with groups such as Joy Division and Oasis.
