The Chakras

The Chakras are an Irish alternative rock, indie rock and psychedelic rock group from Dublin. They form in 2006 and remain active. The band’s line-up includes Rocky Whittaker on lead vocals, Richie McArdle on guitar, Gordo Whittaker on guitar and backing vocals, Ian Kane on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Bryan Pepper on piano, Rhodes, glockenspiel and harmonium.

Early releases and debut album

The first release associated with the band is Build Me A Swan. The group begins work on its debut album in the UK and Ireland, with demo sessions starting in early 2008 at Metropolis Studios in London with producer Chris Potter, who has worked with The Verve. Two tracks are completed at that stage but later discarded. In July 2008, Jaz Rogers takes over production and recording moves to Cauldron Studios and Grouse Lodge in Ireland, as well as locations in London. Most of the album is recorded in short sessions across 2008 and 2009. Build Me A Swan, a digital single from the debut album, is released in 2010, and the album appears in 2011.

Sound and style

The Chakras use reverb, pitch shifting and distortion heavily in their recordings. Their music combines ethereal textures with melodic lines and a prominent rhythm section. They are compared with My Bloody Valentine, The Verve and Doves.
