The Black Box Revelation

The Black Box Revelation is a Belgian garage rock and blues rock group from Dilbeek, formed in 2005. The act is a duo built around Jan Paternoster, who sings and plays guitar, and Dries Van Dijck, who plays drums. Jasper Morel is also listed among the members.

Style and background

The band plays a raw rock sound rooted in garage rock and blues rock. Its music draws on mid-1960s rock and roll, including the Rolling Stones and the Kinks, as well as electric blues and the influence of bands such as Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes, The Black Keys and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Their sound is described through comparisons with R&B-inflected garage rock, delta blues, and British Invasion pop and rock.

Releases and activity

The Black Box Revelation releases Set Your Head on Fire in 2007 and Silver Threats in 2010. Silver Threats is recorded at London’s Konk Studios. The group also records My Perception in Los Angeles with producer Alain Johannes, whose credits include Queens of the Stone Age, Chris Cornell and Them Crooked Vultures. That album includes songs such as the title track, “Rattle My Heart,” “Bitter,” “New Sun,” “2 Young Boys,” “Shadowman” and “White Unicorns.”

Touring and live performances

The band builds an audience in Europe through touring with Eagles of Death Metal and through headline shows in France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Holland and Scandinavia. It also plays a number of shows in the United States, including appearances at SXSW and performances in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, San Diego and San Francisco. The group is active from 2005 to the present.
