The Beautiful Word
The Beautiful Word is an indie-pop quintet from Brighton whose sound sits across folk, jazz and pop. The group is based in Brighton and has been active since 2007.
Line-up and style
The band comprises Megan Clifton, Emily Bryant, Scott Jones, Gruff and Tom Newman. Front vocalists Emily Bryant, from Kirrie in Scotland, and Megan Clifton, from Brighton, sing together to create a single blended vocal texture. Their arrangements are described as bouncy and vivid, and their recordings and live shows are marked by an energetic, youthful feel.
Recording and releases
The group works in a DIY way and has done so for six years, handling its own recording and releases. It originally records at home and later makes a ten-track recording at Church Road Studios. Despite interest from Polydor’s A&R team, a period of association with Take That’s manager, and outside support, the band remains fully independent.
Live activity
The Beautiful Word performs at a range of events and has supported Ellie Goulding. Its live history also includes appearances at The Great Escape and T in the Park.
