The Baltic States

The Baltic States is a UK-based five-piece indie band. Its music combines techno and electronica with vocal melodies, and its listed styles include indie pop, synthpop, techno, electronica and indie electronic.

Formation and line-up

The band is founded by Jev Maligins and Helen Morrisson. Later additions include drummers Slay Janens and Vadim Sidorovs, and bassist Laura Shea. The group performs live in this line-up, and it has played only a small number of gigs.

Early releases and radio play

In summer 2013, The Baltic States releases its debut demo single, “Kontrol”. The track receives strong support from radio and social media, is named track of the week by Best of British Unsigned, and receives airplay across the UK, including on BBC Radio 6 from Tom Robinson. Its promotional video gains more than 80,000 views on YouTube and is filmed and edited by Helen Morrisson and Jev Maligins.

After the release of the second single, “The Fire”, Maligins and Morrisson are invited to perform an acoustic set for BBC Radio Mersey. This remains the only acoustic set the band performs.

Live performances

The band’s live appearances include performances at the 100 Club in London, where it appears in the final of a national contest organised by Living Indie TV, and the Cavern Club, where it performs at the request of BBC Radio Merseyside DJ Dave Monks.

Recording activity

The Baltic States continues working in the studio on new material for later releases and live performances, and plans a self-released debut EP.
