The Autumns

The Autumns are an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, United States. The group forms in 1997 and remains active, with a lineup of Matthew Kelly on vocals and guitar, Frankie Koroshec on guitar, Ken Tighe on guitar, Dustin Morgan on bass and Steve Elkins on drums.

Formation and early releases

The band is formed by childhood friends Frankie Koroshec and Matthew Kelly. In 1997 they sign to Risk Records and issue both the EP Suicide at Strell Park and the album The Angel Pool. That first album brings them to the attention of Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins.

Recording and label changes

With Raymonde producing, the band travel to London to record their second album, In the Russet Gold of This Vain Hour. The record attracts interest from MTV and from the Los Angeles radio station KROQ, but Risk Records collapses soon after its release, leaving the band without a label.

Independent releases and later work

As an unsigned group, The Autumns release the four-song Le Carillon, a set of 1950s-inspired love songs on pink vinyl, and the covers EP Covers. They also score the film Searching for Angela Shelton. Their self-titled third album appears in 2004 on Pseudopod Records in the United States and Bella Union in the United Kingdom.
