The Artful Dodger is a British R&B and UK garage group from Southampton, England. It becomes prominent in the late 1990s through a series of 2-step garage hits, including Re-Rewind, a collaboration with Craig David that reaches number 2 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1999.

Formation and members

The group originally consists of producers Mark Hill and Pete Devereux. Devereux leaves before the release of TwentyFourSeven, after which Hill continues to use the Artful Dodger name. He later works with MC Alistair and producer Dave Low.

Name and style

The name Artful Dodger comes from the character in Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. The act is associated with UK garage, 2-step, garage, electronic and dance music.
