The Amorettes

The Amorettes are a Scottish rock band from West Lothian, active from 2009 to 2019. They are a three-piece female group from Central Scotland and play gritty, punk-tinged hard rock and classic rock.

Career

The band forms in 2009 and builds its profile through extensive touring in the UK and Europe. It plays shows with Ash, Thunder, Black Stone Cherry, Danko Jones and GUN, and appears at festivals in the UK, the Netherlands, France and Belgium. The group also tours the UK as special guests to Europe and Black Star Riders.

Recordings

The Amorettes release Haulin' Ass in 2010, followed by Game On in 2015, White Hot Heat in 2016 and Born to Break in 2018. Game On brings wider attention and is produced by Chris Tsangarides. For a later recording, the band works with Thunder guitarist and songwriter Luke Morley as producer, with recording and mixing by Nick Brine and mastering by Pete Maher.

Style and line-up

The band is described in the press as sounding like Airbourne fronted by Joan Jett, and as a female Motörhead. Its current line-up is Gillian Montgomery on vocals and guitar, Laurie Buchanan on bass and backing vocals, and Josie O'Toole on drums and backing vocals. The group is known for a direct, DIY approach and for taking its music to audiences through constant touring.
