The Almighty are a rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in 1988 and active to the present day. They are a UK rock band whose music moves between punk, hard rock and heavy metal.
Career
The band’s early releases include the 1989 debut album Blood Fire and Love. Later albums include Soul Destruction, produced by Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor, Powertrippin', Crank and Just Add Life. During the Powertrippin' period, Tantrum leaves the group and Pete Friesen of Alice Cooper takes over on guitar.
In 1992 the band plays the Monsters of Rock festival at Donington in England and also appears with Metallica at the Milton Keynes Bowl. The Almighty split in 1996, reform in 2000 with Nick Parsons on guitar, and release Psycho-Narco in 2001 with Gav Gray replacing long-time bassist Floyd London. They disband again soon afterwards, while vocalist Ricky Warwick pursues a solo career.
Reunion activity
In mid-2005 Floyd London returns after recovering from leukaemia, bringing the band back together for live shows. The classic lineup reunites for two leukaemia research benefit shows in January 2006, followed by a headline appearance at the Bulldog Bash and a short five-date tour at the end of that year. In 2007 the compilation Anthology: The Gospel According To... is released with the band’s support, along with a live DVD of the Glasgow benefit show from January 2006.
Members
The band’s members include Ricky Warwick on vocals and guitar, Pete Friesen on guitar, Floyd London on bass, Stump Monroe on drums, Tantrum, and Nick Parsons. Warwick later joins Thin Lizzy and then Black Star Riders in 2012.
