The Airborne Toxic Event
The Airborne Toxic Event is an American indie rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 2006. It is led by Mikel Jollett, with Steven Chen, Noah Harmon, Anna Bulbrook and Daren Taylor completing the group’s early five-piece lineup. The band remains active.
Style and name
The group takes its name from a section of Don DeLillo’s novel White Noise. Its music combines a standard rock arrangement of guitar, drums and bass with viola and keyboards, and draws on a wide range of influences, including classic rock and roll, art rock and indie pop.
Releases and recognition
The band is best known for Sometime Around Midnight, which becomes a hit in the United Kingdom and on American alternative radio in 2008 and 2009. Its self-titled debut EP includes references to The Cure, The Fall and the Velvet Underground. The second album, All At Once, follows in 2011.
Labels
The Airborne Toxic Event is signed to Majordomo Records for many years and later signs to Island Records in 2009.

The band develops a reputation for intense live shows and is associated with performances built around energetic delivery and dramatic, dark rock songs.
