The Adventures

The Adventures are a Northern Irish rock band formed in Belfast in 1984 and active until 1993. The group is centred on lead vocalist Terry Sharpe and guitarist Pat Gribben, who first work together in 1978 in punk band The Starjets. After The Starjets split in the early 1980s, Sharpe and Gribben form The Adventures with Eileen Gribben, Gerard Murphy, Tony Ayre and Paul Crowder. They play their first show in North London in February 1984.

Career

After forming, the band move to London and build a profile through UK chart activity in the 1980s and 1990s. They record and tour throughout their active years, with backing from Simon Fuller, but do not make a major commercial breakthrough. In later years they reform for low-key live performances and festival appearances in Belfast, without releasing further studio recordings.

Recorded work

Their best-known song is “Broken Land”, written by Pat Gribben, which reaches number 20 in the UK charts and is the most played song on BBC Radio 1 in 1988. Another single, “One Step From Heaven”, is chosen as Gary Davies’ Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1, but it does not chart.
