Tedeschi Trucks Band
Tedeschi Trucks Band is an American blues rock group from Jacksonville, Florida. It forms in 2010 and is led by married musicians Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. The group also uses the name Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band before adopting its current name in 2011.
Formation and line-up
The band comes together after Derek Trucks Band and Susan Tedeschi Band go on hiatus, with the couple writing new material from their home studio in Jacksonville. It draws heavily on members from their solo projects and touring circles. Their broader line-up includes Alecia Chakour, Brandon Boone, Elizabeth Lea, Emmanuel Echem, Gabe Dixon, Isaac Eady, Kebbi Williams, Mark Rivers, Maurice Brown, Kofi Burbridge, Oteil Burbridge, Tyler Greenwell, Tim Lefebvre, Saunders Sermons, and J.J. Johnson.
Recordings and recognition
The group’s debut album, Revelator, wins the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. The band focuses mainly on original songs rather than material taken from the members’ earlier solo work. It performs live at the Savannah Music Festival for its first concert in 2010, and also appears at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, Fuji Rock Festival, and other venues and festivals.
Collaborations
Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi also work together outside the band. They appear on Herbie Hancock’s The Imagine Project on the song “Space Captain,” alongside additional members including Oteil Burbridge, Kofi Burbridge, and Mike Mattison. They also perform the song with Hancock at his 70th birthday concerts at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.
