Taxman

Taxman is the production alias of Dominic Tindill, a drum and bass and jungle artist from Sunderland, United Kingdom. Born in 1983, he grows up listening to drum & bass and jungle alongside his brother Adam Tindill, who performs as Original Sin and is associated with the G Dub production duo.

Early interest and development

As a teenager, Tindill develops a strong interest in recording studios and music production. He and his brother listen to their record collections together and begin experimenting with mixing. He then spends long periods learning production on his PC, deciding gradually to pursue music as a career.

Breakthrough releases and scene support

His early work draws encouragement from Adam Tindill, who passes on Taxman’s track The Rebate to labels and DJs connected with Formation Records and Propaganda. The track is played by Grooverider on BBC Radio 1, which helps establish his name. Taxman is later taken up by DJ Hype and Pascal after a collaboration with G Dub on Warp Speed. Hype signs him to Real Playaz, and the track Too Bad becomes one of his best-known releases. It combines reggae vocal snippets, heavy bass and fast percussion, and is played widely by DJs in the scene. It also receives daytime support on BBC 1Xtra. Other releases associated with his name include Original Ninja and Scan Darker.
