Superstar

Superstar is a rock project associated with musician and motivational speaker Kris Kancler, also credited as the ROCKSTAR SUPERSTAR PROJECT, and based in the United States. It is linked in the input to the name Superstar, while the detailed musical history attached to that name describes a Scottish rock band active in the 1990s.

1990s rock band history

Under that band history, Superstar are founded in 1991 by Joe McAlinden, who previously plays with The Groovy Little Numbers and the BMX Bandits and also arranges strings for Teenage Fanclub. The group first appears on Creation Records in 1992 with Greatest Hits vol. 1, then follows with the Capitol Records album Superstar.

Line-up and label changes

The band regroup in 1996, when Jim McCulloch joins on lead guitar. McCulloch has previously been in the Soup Dragons and the original line-up of the BMX Bandits. After this, Superstar sign to Camp Fabulous, which releases 18 Carat in 1997.

Notable single

The single “Superstar” reaches number 49 on the UK Singles Chart. It later gains a wider audience when Rod Stewart covers it on When We Were the New Boys.
