Submariner is the recording name of Andy Morton, a United Kingdom-based producer and DJ also described as UK tech house producer Rupert Brewer. He works primarily as a beatmaker and producer, and his career is built on studio work, remixes, and DJing rather than a single fixed band format.

Early studio work

During the 1990s, Morton’s first studio, The Hut, becomes a meeting place for artists including Che Fu, Token Village, Ermehn, and King Kapisi. Work from this period leads to writing and production roles on Che Fu’s 2 B Spacific and Ermehn’s Samoans Pt 2 album.

Production and remixes

Submariner’s output extends across a wide range of collaborators. He remixes Bic Runga, Salmonella Dub, and Rhombus, and he also contributes solo tracks to compilations including Sideways on Round Trip Mars. Those tracks receive playlist support from Mr Scruff and The Rockers HiFi.

His production work also appears on albums by Mark De Clive-Lowe, Dam Native, King Kapisi, Sola Rosa, and on both Dimmer records. On Mark De Clive-Lowe’s Six Degrees album, he co-produces the larger share of the record.

Live work and DJing

Morton often performs as part of the Dimmer live band. He is also a long-time DJ on 95bFM, George, and Base, and he is one third of the Turnaround DJ team with Manuel Bundy and Cian. The group’s monthly night at the Rising Sun in Auckland has a strong reputation for late-night partying.
