Steve Kendra begins his music career in 1996, after buying a five-string banjo instead of exchanging money for travellers cheques. He later switches to guitar and also uses a Martin Backpacker guitar, which he carries to work.

He works as a taxi driver, and the time between fares gives him space to practise and write. He draws on the night-time atmosphere of that work for creative ideas. He also plans an album titled Songs From The Red Taxi.
