Steve Cobby is an electronic musician, composer, DJ and producer from Kingston upon Hull. He works in downtempo and electronica, and is based in Hull, Yorkshire.

Fila Brazillia

Cobby co-founds Fila Brazillia with David McSherry in 1990. The duo releases on the Hull label Pork Recordings from 1990 to 1998, a label set up by David “Porky” Brennand and Cobby. In 1999, Cobby and McSherry set up Twentythree Records with Sim Lister. Under the Fila Brazillia name, the pair release 10 albums, a best-of collection, 24 singles and EPs, and many remixes. The project quietly splits after the retrospective album in 2006.

Other projects and collaborations

Cobby works with a number of other musicians and producers. He records with Porky as The Cutler, with Rich Arthurs of Orgatronics as Peacecorps, with Sim Lister as one half of J*S*T*A*R*S, with Lister and Jake Harries in Heights of Abraham, with Stephen Mallinder in Hey, Rube!, formerly The Light Programme, and with DJ and club owner Adam Regan as Chieftain. He also works solo as The Solid Doctor.

His other aliases and collaborations include Cobby & Litten, Cobby & Porky, North East Sound System, 2 Loops Lautrec, White Dopes on Funk, Spokane and BBC.

Releases

As Heights of Abraham, Cobby releases the albums Humidity in 1993, Electric Hush in 1995 and Two Thousand And Six in 2005. Electric Hush is later re-released by ZTT in 1998.

As J*S*T*A*R*S, he releases the album Put Me On A Planet in 2006. The track “Loose Nuke Threat” is used in John Lewis Partnership spring advertising campaigns in 2004 and 2005.

As The Solid Doctor, he releases the albums How about some Ether? and Beats Means Highs in 1995 and 1996 respectively.
