Stand High Patrol
Stand High Patrol is a French dub, electronic and reggae group active since 2001. The project begins as a sound system in Brittany, where two friends start collecting records with the aim of sharing their interest in roots music and early digital productions. The lineup soon includes Pupajim, who becomes the group’s MC. The act runs on the label Stand High Records.
Early development
After moving to Rennes, the group begins hosting a radio show on Radio Campus Rennes from 2003 to 2008. Around the same time, Pupajim starts creating the group’s first dubs, and the act begins playing in bars in Rennes. By 2005, it is performing with exclusively self-made dubplates and sharing bills with established names in the soundsystem scene.
Style
The group develops a style known as “dubadub”, described as a blend of dub, hip hop, bass music and digital reggae, with trip hop, techno and new wave influences. Its sound is built around Pupajim’s voice and a wide use of effects, with production shaped by hip hop-style beats and heavy bass, kick and clap patterns. The group’s work is associated with dub, reggae and electronic music, and it also overlaps with dancehall and dubstep.
Performance and identity
Stand High Patrol continues to appear alongside major European dub acts while maintaining its own recordings and releases through Stand High Records. The group is centred on Pupajim, with ROOTYSTEP and Mc Gyver forming the sound system’s early core and contributing to its development.
