Squarehead
Squarehead is an Irish indie rock band from Dublin, active since 2010. It is described as a three-piece garage pop group, and its debut album, Yeah Nothing, is released on Richter Collective in 2011.
Releases and activity
The group’s recorded output includes its first album and later material associated with the name Squarehead. The project also appears in electronic contexts: under the same name, Sebastian Komor makes original electronic music and remixes other artists, including releases on Celldweller’s FiXT label such as the album Voltage Controlled Body Music and several singles.
Related artists and remix work
Squarehead is also linked with remix work for a range of artists, including Viers, Ex Presidents, Waze and Odyssey, and Lulu James. In another description, Squarehead is identified as Oliver Ledger, a Sheffield producer and DJ who starts by making a name in club settings, supports artists including Eats Everything, B.Traits, Maya Jane Coles, Pearson Sound, Ben UFO, Breach and Citizen, and releases music on Wolf Music, Sounds of Sumo, Bad Taste Records and his own imprint 5ANDSEVEN.
Style and label connections
As a producer identity, Squarehead’s music moves between garage, house and disco, with influences from the Sheffield bassline and grime scene, and is described as sitting between UK bass and deep garage-influenced house. The 5ANDSEVEN label is founded in July 2012, with Squarehead providing both artwork and management as well as music for the imprint.
