Spitalfield

Spitalfield is an alternative rock band from Chicago, United States, active from 1998 to 2007. Based in Glen Ellyn, Chicago, the group is associated with pop punk, emo, rock and alternative rock, and is signed to Victory Records.

Career

Formed in 1998, Spitalfield first draws wider attention with The Cloak And Dagger Club EP, released in 2002. The following year the band releases Remember Right Now, which becomes a fan favourite. In 2005 it issues Stop Doing Bad Things, which includes the tracks “Gold Dust V. The State Of Illinois” and “So I Heard You Joined a Convent”.

The band’s line-up changes during the mid-2000s. Bassist T.J. Minich leaves in the summer of 2005 and TJ Milici joins in his place. In August 2006 guitarist Dan Lowder departs for personal reasons and is replaced by Jeff Meilander, who previously plays in Seven Days of Samsara and Bosio. Lowder still plays guitar on Better Than Knowing Where You Are, released in October 2006.

Name and final activity

The band takes its name from Spitalfields, the East London area associated with the Jack the Ripper story. In 2007 Spitalfield announces that it is ending after a 25-date tour in November and December, and it also plans a limited-edition collection of out-of-print pre-Victory recordings and selected demos from 1998 to 2002 for those final shows and selected online stores.

Members and later work

Mark Rose is listed as the band’s member. After Spitalfield, Rose performs as a solo artist. TJ and JD also play locally around Chicago and the surrounding suburbs in a new band called Thrillage.
