Spinney Lainey is Elaine Round from England. She is a progressive psytrance producer and classically trained flute player.

Early musical background

She begins learning the flute at the age of eight. After graduating with a degree in classical music, she spends the following years composing, improvising, recording and performing across a wide range of styles. During that period, she works with musicians in the UK and abroad, forms several musical projects, bands and collaborations, and also works as a session musician.

Psytrance work

Lainey develops a strong interest in psytrance and is first noticed after posting a video of herself busking on flute to Zyce’s track “Basic” at Piccadilly Circus. The video gains wide attention online. Following this, Zyce asks her to record a flute part for “Basic”, leading to a remix version. She goes on to work with Zyce on five tracks in total, including the EP Fluting, which reaches number one on Beatport.

Collaborations and style

She continues to collaborate with other producers in the psychedelic and progressive scene, including Lyctum, Flegma, Mindwave, Starlab, Pulsar, Thaihanu, Elegy, Argonnight, Axer, Shabot, Alpha & Omega, Dreamstate, Moon Tripper, Zweep and Agent Kritsek. Her performance style combines live flute with electronic effects and her own melodic progressive psytrance compositions.
