Speed Caravan

Speed Caravan is a Paris-based group active since 2005. It centres on Algerian oud player Mehdi Haddab, who is known for amplifying the oud and giving the instrument a rock-inflected treatment while keeping it tied to Arabic musical traditions.

The line-up includes Haddab, bassist Pascal Teillet, and Hermione Frank, whose beat-driven approach shapes the group’s sound. The project also includes Mohamed Bouamar. Its music brings together elements of avant-garde, folktronica and world fusion, while drawing on references from rock and electronic music as well as Algerian rai.
