Sounds of Sirens

Sounds of Sirens is a Tennessee indie rock band from the United States. The group forms around Drew Daniel, Phil Gleghorn and Micah Davis, with Daniel on bass, vocals and samples, Gleghorn on guitar and backing vocals, and Davis on drums.

History

The band begins in Fayetteville, Tennessee, where Daniel, Gleghorn and Davis first play together in a high school cover band called The Weakend in 2003. When college starts, that earlier group ends. Gleghorn later moves to Murfreesboro to study sound recording and production at Middle Tennessee State University, while Daniel moves to Knoxville.

Sounds of Sirens forms in the summer of 2009 in Fayetteville, with Daniel and Davis joined by their friends Ian Goodman and Dakota Smith, as they enter the Knoxville battle of the bands competition Sound Off. The group does not win, but it aims to make an impression on the local scene.

Recordings and releases

After Sound Off, the band expands with the addition of Patrick Tice, who later plays for Johnny Astro and The Big Bang, and records its first EP, Classic Static. The song “Alone Tonight” from that EP appears on the June 2011 birp.fm indie rock playlist, on the Juice Springs Juicy 10 for July 2011, and on the Juice Springs Indie Rock Playlist Best of 2011.

After college, the band goes on hiatus until Daniel and Davis return to Fayetteville. By that point, Gleghorn has access to instruments, a house for rehearsals and a recording setup, allowing the group to resume work. With the current lineup, the band plays in Murfreesboro, Chattanooga and Knoxville. Its song “Mission Statement” is featured on the Jimdo indie rock playlist, and the group works on a debut full-length album.
