Sonic Jesus

Sonic Jesus is an Italian psychedelic rock group, founded in Doganella di Ninfa in Cisterna di Latina in March 2012. The project centres on a collaboration between Tiziano Veronese and Marco Baldassari. Veronese, who formerly plays drums, is the main composer and instrumentalist, while Baldassari writes the lyrics and is a self-taught musician. The band develops from a close friendship and from a shared interest in combining music and poetry into a single artistic work.

Style and sound

The band’s music draws on 1960s sounds, folk music, shoegaze and krautrock influences. Their work is described as a blend of colour, travel and discovery, with music and lyrics treated as closely connected parts of the same project.

Early releases and labels

Sonic Jesus signs to Fuzz Club Records soon after forming. Their single “Underground” appears on the first Reverb Conspiracy compilation, and the group is the only Italian act on that release. “Underground” is taken from the Underground EP, a 10-inch release that comes out at the same time as the compilation through Fuzz Club Records, Bad Vibrations and Reverberation Appreciation Society. The EP features artwork by Nonni Dead.

Live activity and later material

After starting to perform, Sonic Jesus plays a number of sold-out shows and supports acts including Damo Suzuki of Can, Dead Skeletons and Singapore Sling. The band is also scheduled to appear on the second Reverb Conspiracy compilation with the single “Reich”, becoming the only group to feature on the compilation twice. A first LP, produced by Fuzz Club Records, is also in preparation at that stage.
