Songhoy Blues

Songhoy Blues is a desert blues group from Mali, active since 2012. The band is based in Timbuktu and forms in Bamako after its members are forced to leave their homes during the civil conflict and the imposition of Sharia law.

Members and style

The group consists of Garba Touré, Aliou Touré, Oumar Touré and Nathanael Dembélé. Its sound is described as blues and desert blues, with a basis in Mali’s desert blues tradition.

Albums

Songhoy Blues releases its debut album, Music in Exile, in 2015. It follows with Résistance in 2017, Optimisme in 2020 and Héritage in 2025.
