SOiL
SOiL is an American alternative metal band from Chicago. The group forms in 1997 from former members of the death metal bands Broken Hope and Oppressor. Its lineup centres on Ryan McCombs on vocals, Adam Zadel on guitar, Tim King on bass and Jon Wysocki on drums, alongside earlier and former members including Tom Schofield on drums, A. J. Cavalier on vocals and guitar, Shaun Glass on guitar, and touring members Jordan Lee on vocals and Mike Tignino on drums.
Style and early releases
The band plays alternative metal with a harsh but melodic sound. Its early releases are the SOiL EP, El Chupacabra EP and the first album Throttle Junkies, which lead into wider recognition.
Breakthrough and later work
SOiL gains international success with Scars. The album includes singles such as “Halo” and “Unreal”, which become closely associated with the band’s sound. The group also plays Ozzfest in 2002, and a live version of “Halo” with Zakk Wylde appears on the Ozzfest 2002 CD. Its recorded output also includes Redefine, True Self, Picture Perfect, Re-LIVE-ing The Scars and Whole.
