Soichi Terada
Soichi Terada (寺田 創一, Terada Soichi) is a Japanese electronic music composer and producer from Tokyo, Japan, born in 1965. He is associated with house, electronic music, video game music, soundtrack work, atmospheric drum and bass, chiptune, deep house, drum and bass, and jungle.
Early releases and Far East
Terada first gains recognition in the early 1990s for house releases issued mainly on his own Far East recording label. These releases establish the base of his profile before his later work in game music becomes more widely known.
Video game composition
He is best known outside Japan for his music for the Ape Escape (サルゲッチュ, Saru Getchu) series. He also composes the Japanese version of the soundtrack for the PlayStation 2 game Fantavision and for the Japan-only game Futari no Fantavision. His later game soundtracks help bring wider attention to his jungle-influenced style.
Later styles and collaborations
In the mid-1990s, Terada expands into jungle. Earlier remix work for Akiko Kanazawa in the early 1990s leads to a collaboration in the early 2000s under the name Omodaka. Omodaka combines chiptune with Min’yō, Japanese folk music.
Renewed attention
After the release of the Sounds from the Far East compilation on Rush Hour in 2015, Terada attracts renewed interest and overseas attention within the electronic music community.
Associated names
He is also linked with the names 沢瀉 and Mnst.
