Smote

Smote is the project of multi-instrumentalist Daniel Foggin, based in Newcastle. It begins during the early quarantine period and focuses on repetition as a central musical idea. The project releases a number of recordings in a short period and issues Drommon on Rocket Recordings, a label associated with acts including Gnod and Goat.

The music is described as a drone-based approach that draws on krautrock and psychedelia. Drommon is presented as the project’s most ambitious drone release, with a sound that suggests murky, twilight-like communication and a dense, subconscious atmosphere.

Smote is also identified with a broader musical background: born in 1977 in central Slovakia, he starts on piano in childhood before taking up guitar in the local punk band Los Ratones Paranoicos. He has been part of the drum and bass scene since 1998.
