Skrillex is the electronic project of Sonny Moore, a musician from Los Angeles, United States, born in 1988. He uses the name to distinguish his solo electronic work from his work with From First to Last and other projects. Under this alias, he works as a DJ and producer and is associated with styles including electro house, fidget house and brostep, alongside wider electronic forms such as dubstep, breakcore, electro and electronica.

Career

Moore begins performing as Skrillex in clubs around the Los Angeles area in 2008. He later develops the project into a major part of his work. His debut EP under the name is My Name is Skrillex, which he releases as a free download. He is then signed to mau5trap and tours nationally with deadmau5.

His second EP, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, appears as a co-release through mau5trap and Big Beat. He later issues the remix EP More Monsters and Sprites, which contains three new tracks and four remixes of the title track. In 2011 he releases Bangarang.

Label and collaborations

Skrillex announces his label OWSLA in 2011. His releases and work include collaborations with Ellie Goulding on “Summit” and with Wolfgang Gartner, Kill the Noise, The Doors and 12th Planet. He is also connected with the project Jack Ü and the act Dog Blood, and is listed with From First to Last among his associated group memberships.

Awards

He receives five Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, Best Dance Recording for “Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites”, and Best Short Form Music Video for “First of the Year (Equinox)”.
