Single File

Single File is a rock group from Westminster, Colorado, active from 2003 to 2010. The band begins as a swing jazz trio while the members are in high school, with Sloan Anderson and Chris Depew playing together since middle school. It later develops into a pop punk and alternative rock act and builds a local following in Colorado before signing to Reprise Records in 2006.

Early releases and local profile

The group self-releases its first EP, As You Were, in 2003, followed by Heartbreak and Masturbation in 2004 and My Best Defense in 2005. It gains regular airplay on Denver station KTCL with “Zombies Ate My Neighbors,” a song titled after the video game, and the track becomes a local hit. In 2006, the band is also named one of MySpace’s Top 10 Unsigned Bands.

Tours, label work and later releases

Single File tours nationally in 2005 and 2006, including appearances on the Vans Warped Tour. After signing to Reprise, the band records a debut full-length in early 2006 with producer Ed Rose, whose credits include Motion City Soundtrack, The Get Up Kids, Senses Fail, Emery, Reggie and the Full Effect, The Spill Canvas and The New Amsterdams. The album is first planned under different titles, including Benson Shady Grove and Young Goodman Brown: A Book of Short Stories, before being retitled Common Struggles. Instead of issuing the album at that stage, the band pauses the project and continues touring.

In July 2007, Single File releases the iTunes-exclusive EP No More Sadface on Reprise, which reaches number 43 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. After that, the group supports The Fray on several American dates and later opens for Saves the Day on their US tour.
