Simon Scott is a British sound artist, producer, composer, mastering engineer and multi-instrumentalist from Cambridge, United Kingdom. He is also a drummer, best known for his work in Slowdive, and he performs with or has been part of several other groups, including Televise, Seavault, The Charlottes, Inner Sleeve, Between and Southern Fly.
Solo work
Scott releases solo music that combines digital signal manipulation, micro-melodies, minimalism, environmental recordings and organic acoustic textures. His work also draws on sound ecology, music technology, digital media, illustration, photography, composition and sound art, and it often focuses on active listening and the way sound materials and timbres are perceived.
Below Sea Level is his third solo album and his first release for the US experimental label 12k. He also has music issued on Morr Music, Miasmah, Ghostly International and other labels. His track “For Martha” appears on Kompakt’s Pop Ambient 2012 compilation.
Collaborations and projects
Scott is a member of BETWEEN, alongside Taylor Deupree, Marcus Fischer and illuha. The group releases its debut album on 12k. He also appears in Seavault on Morr Music.
His work features in international films, sonic art exhibitions, dance productions and digital multimedia projects from the late 1990s onward. He shares the stage with, remixes, and is remixed by artists including Isan, Nils Frahm, Taylor Deupree, Klimek, Richard Chartier, Tim Hecker, Christopher Willits, Marcus Fischer, AUS, Lawrence English, The Caretaker, Sawako, Fourcolor, Mark Templeton, Moskitoo, Library Tapes, Ulrich Schnauss, Machinefabriek, Pinkcourtesyphone, Janek Schaefer, Jasper TX and The Sight Below.
KESH Recordings
Scott establishes the KESH recording label in 2008. The label’s artists include Isan, Autistici, Unrecognizable Now and Strangers, among others.
Slowdive
Scott tours widely as the drummer in Slowdive. He is part of the group between 1990 and 1994, and again from 2014 onward. Slowdive works with Brian Eno on the Souvlaki album.
