Simon Posford is an English electronic musician from the United Kingdom, born in 1971, whose work is associated with ambient, chillout, downtempo, electronic, electronica, psybient and psychedelic trance. He is best known under the stage name Hallucinogen and also works as a producer and performer in several collaborative projects.

Hallucinogen

Under the Hallucinogen name, Posford focuses on psytrance. His first studio album, Twisted, appears in 1995 and becomes one of the genre’s most influential albums. He follows it with The Lone Deranger in 1997 and In Dub in 2002. Portrait of an Artist in Isolation appears in 2020 and is inspired by the period of global isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also tours in India several times.

Record label and collaborations

Posford founds Twisted Records and releases music through it. He works in a large number of groups and projects, including Younger Brother, Shpongle, Dub Trees, Audio Chemistry, Twisted Allstars, Infernal Machine, Axis Mundi, Anubis, Mandala, DSP, Fly Agaric, Celtic Cross, Gargoyles, Beast, Baba G, Aon, Earglobe, Nomads of Dub, Metal Sharon, Shpongle Static, Industrial Suicide Tribe and The Noodniks. Younger Brother begins as a side project with Benji Vaughan and marks a move away from earlier material that uses a more synthesised approach.

His music is described as strongly psychedelic in character, and he performs sober because operating multiple computers and mixers during live events is complex.
