Simon Fox is a Birmingham-based musician who works under the name Fox. He is a fingerstyle guitarist and also records as a solo artist, using acoustic-led songwriting alongside a wider range of instruments including guitar, banjo, percussion, keyboards, theremin, mandolin, brass and woodwind.
Grover and post-rock work
Fox is formerly the leader of Grover, a Birmingham post-rock group. Between 1993 and 2003, Grover releases a range of albums, singles and split records on independent labels in different countries. The group also receives radio play on BBC Radio 1, including a Peel Session in 2001, as well as airtime on independent stations in Europe and the USA. This helps build a dedicated international following and gives the band influence within the UK post-rock scene.
Fox recordings
Under the Fox name, Simon Fox moves towards more intimate and reflective songs. The recordings are described as personal in tone, with detailed arrangements and a dry, understated sense of humour. His discography includes The First Rule Of Comedy by Lonesome Fox, an EP from 2007; Fruit by Fox, a single from 2009; Everything Is For The Best by World Of Fox, an album from 2009; and Skip More School, a split single that includes Fox, also from 2009.
Collaborations and other projects
Alongside solo work, Fox appears in a number of collaborations. He is one half of the electronica duo Krafla, is a founder member of the Experimental Music Collective, and records and performs with Clair Horton on an album project. He also works with James Summerfield and appears regularly as a guest DJ with the Grumpy Man DJs.
