Shout Out Louds

Shout Out Louds are a Swedish indie pop, indie rock and rock group from Stockholm, formed in 2001. The band initially uses the name Luca Brasi before changing it when they find that another act already has the name. The core line-up consists of Adam Olenius, Ted Malmros, Carl von Arbin and Bebban Stenborg, with Eric Edman also part of the band in its early years. The members are friends from childhood.

Early releases and breakthrough

The band releases its first album, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, in October 2003 and it receives strong attention in Sweden. Over the following year they tour and issue additional material including Please Please Please, Very Loud/Wish I Was Dead and the Oh, Sweetheart EP. They also sign to Capitol Records for the US market. The American edition of Howl Howl Gaff Gaff appears in 2005 and adds tracks from the Swedish release alongside early singles and EP recordings. A US tour with the Dears and airplay on The O.C. help raise their profile.

Albums and later work

In 2007 the band releases Our Ill Wills, produced by Björn Yttling. The album has a darker sound, with icy synthesizers and vocals shaped by the Cure. After touring, the group pauses for around half a year. They meet again in Stockholm in 2009 to write new songs, then go to Seattle to record with Phil Ek. Their third album, Work, arrives in 2010.

After supporting Work on tour, the band changes its writing method, composing outside the studio and then bringing parts together collectively. They record the next album themselves in a small Stockholm studio, with help from Johannes Berglund. Optica is released on Merge in 2013. In the following years Adam Olenius and Bebban Stenborg both issue solo-related material, including Stenborg’s Astropol project.

Recent activity

Shout Out Louds return in Stockholm for the recording of Ease My Mind in 2017, a more guitar-led album, and release House in 2022.
